Electrick Children.

My sister/friend, Becca Lou, is making a movie. I suspect it will be a great movie, because she is passionate, and a great filmmaker. I also know the cinematographers and several of the actresses (plus one actor), and can vouch for them as well.

Here she is, one week after moving to Manhattan for Columbia film school!

Here is a movie poster!

Here is the kickstarter, where you may learn more about the movie and send spare change, to make it even more of a success!

TIMEless.

I helped work on this exhibit, the very tiniest, little bit. Mainly editing preproduction things and a few of the narratives within the catalog. I also spent at least one night installing the art inside the space. (Who knew hanging art on walls could be so hard?)

The theme of the exhibit is a little tricky for me to describe, but deals with time, space, architecture, film, other medias, and interactivity. I recommend watching the promotion below for a clearer idea. The show boasts over 100 pieces of art from over 50 artists--some of whom have awards. Academy Awards. (And likely other kinds.)

If you (yes, you), happen to live in the LA area (or happen to be visiting), you should come to the opening this Thursday, May 26. Or at least check out the website.

There will be yummy treats to boot.

Hymn 101.

This song was so beautiful live, it made me cry.

I've come from down the road.
And my footsteps never slowed.
Before we met, I knew we'd meet.
Before we met, I knew we'd meet.

And I've come here to ignore your cries and heartaches.
I've come to closely listen to you sing.
I've come here to insist, that I leave here with a kiss.
I've come to say exactly what I mean.
And I mean so many things.

Dance Yrself Clean.

Who: S and maybe 10 to 14 others.
What: Dance Painting. (And Scratchboarding. And Spin Art.)
Where: Somewhere in the vast expanses of LA. (Heaven knows I do not know the name of the place.)
When: Last Friday.
Why: For fun!!!! (And a much needed break from philosophy paper writing.)

It was a most magical night, filled with many more beautiful and delightful things, such as crepe eating, new friendship forming, and dancing around a smallish room, while painting on paper, walls, and people (all sadly un-photographed). Let your imaginations run wild, and in the meantime, enjoy my humble art made pre and post dancing. It might make me overly proud--likely because it is the first art I have created since I was a (middle school) child.

Blurry Spencer, drawing...

Blurry (and poorly lighted) winner: Cumorah!

Shabby Apple Giveaway Extravaganza.

Once upon a time, a woman from my favorite women's dress boutique emailed me that she liked my blog, and asked if I would be interested in hosting a giveaway. They provide the Shabby Apple dress free of charge, and I provide the lucky reader who gets to win it. While I am not interested in advertising things, I am interested in recommending things, especially those things I like (i.e., books and food), and I like Shabby Apple. This love of recommending probably stems from the library scientist in me. Either way, I wrote back a resounding yes.

Here I am, liking one of my favorite Shabby Apple dresses the day I became a Master,

and then another the day Hedi got married.

Here is the dress you may win:
It is called Spanish Steps and is from one of their newest Spring collections. If you are interested, leave a comment (or two, or three), and I will do some sort of drawing on May 8th, before posting again with the results. Good luck!

Parking tickets will be the death of me.

Hospitals make me so, so sad. And emergency rooms even sadder.

My grandma had a stroke on Thursday. The grandma that I live with. It happened 15 minutes before I came home from my Nietzsche class, so I was able to take her to the emergency room, and sit with her for hours while they ran tests, and when they moved her to a room upstairs. S has been helping me take care of her since her return. My homework has long been neglected and I think we are all tired.

Winter Reads.

What I am reading now: Too many to say.

Special remarks: First, In Defense of Food was one of the best books I have read, ever. Second, The Writing of the Disaster is probably the most beautifully written book I have read, ever.

Gotta get to the center. Gotta get to the concert.

Jenny Lewis opened, which was a) a nice surprise and b) reminiscent of NYC 4th of July two years ago, when she and Conor played in a park for free. She remains lovely, and he: darling. So, so darling. As many times as I have seen him play, this was the first time as Bright Eyes, thereby making my 18 year old self's dream come true(!) It was every bit as great as I imagined it would be, only happier. Who knew a Bright Eyes concert could be so happy? Not I. Not, I. I was strongly reminded of live music's power to endow energy. Somehow this is a big deal to me, because I'm not extroverted enough to get energy from other people all of the time. Only sometimes. Only close friends and small group times. Most of the other things that give me energy are the actual, physical things that are supposed to give energy, like eating and sleeping, bicycling.

I felt glad for days afterward.
